Eight venues at Edinburgh Airport are celebrating having achieved accredited status as Best Bar None (BBN) Scotland venues – a first for airport venues in the UK.

Four venues, J D Wetherspoon – the Turnhouse, Flutes and Tails – The Champagne Bar, The Gathering and J D Wetherspoon – The Sir Walter Scott all received a Best Bar None Award with Merit. Four other venues, All Bar One, World Duty Free, No.1 Lounge and Aspire Lounge were accredited with Best Bar None awards.

The Edinburgh Airport awards ceremony for 2018 took place at Edinburgh Airport on Thursday 12th April 2018.

Edinburgh Airport joined the Best Bar None (BBN) Scotland scheme in January of this year as the first airport in the UK. The airport signed up for the voluntary national scheme after working closely with the Best Bar None Scotland and Police Scotland to champion best practice within an airport environment.

The Best Bar None scheme, which is sponsored by Diageo, Heineken, Tennents and Edrington-Beam Suntory UK and Chivas Brothers-Pernod Ricard is an integral part of the Safer Communities Initiatives across Scotland.

Arlene Campbell, National Best Bar None Scotland Lead, said:

“I congratulate all eight venues at Edinburgh Airport for achieving accreditation with Best Bar None status. The Best Bar None scheme has been really well received and we have had full buy-in and support from the venues and the airport community which has fully embraced the ethos of BBN. This is the first time UK airport venues have joined Best Bar None and because of the differences in the licensing laws airside, we have created a unique scoring criteria designed for the Airport.

“The partnership working in the airport community has developed as a result of the scheme and the concept of delivery is being recognised by the wider UK Airport community. We are keen to see how the scheme might take off in other airport environment thanks to the commitment and results delivered by venues at Edinburgh Airport.”

Mandy Haeburn-Little, Chair of Best Bar None Scotland, said:

“I was absolutely delighted when Edinburgh Airport decided to be the flagship Best Bar None airport and even more so now that their achievements are being recognised. This really shows the commitment of not just the leadership team, but everyone from the venues and the airport community which have helped take the BBN scheme to new heights.

“I very much hope that other airports will be inspired by the results produced by the venues here at Edinburgh Airport and follow suit to show a commitment to standards which will provide a guarantee of customer care and safety in all licenced venues in the airport. I highly commend the eight BBN venues here at the airport and look forward to see how they will develop as BBN venues in the years to come.”

Greg Maxwell, Corporate Affairs Manager at Edinburgh Airport said:

“We always like to be innovative in our approach and set the industry standard and becoming involved in the Best Bar None scheme was a UK first. It also made sense for our venues to get involved and show the close working relationship we have with them to provide a high quality passenger experience.

“I congratulate the venues for meeting and surpassing the BBN criteria and for ensuring that customer care is always at the core of what they, and we as an airport, do.”
