A special seminar designed to support individuals at risk from ‘compassion fatigue’ and burnout is to take place in Glasgow, led by a US specialist in PTSD.
C7 Church is putting on the seminar Dealing with Burnout and Compassion Fatigue on Thursday 24 October. Pastor Jason Cask, Senior Pastor at C7 Church has invited Dr Don Lichi, renowned US-based PHD, licenced psychologist and clinical specialist in emotional and spiritual health to deliver the seminar. This will be his first visit to the country.
As well as professionals in emergency/front line services such as fire, police and paramedics, the interactive session will also offer advice to social workers, schoolteachers, charity workers and community volunteers involved with support services for vulnerable people.
The seminar is free of charge to attend and aims to give participants a greater understanding of how burnout and compassion fatigue is caused, provide them with the skills to regain strength for their work, understand what steps they can take to avoid future burnout and operate a healthier practice at work for service providers and service users alike.
Dr Lichi, one of whose areas of special expertise is dealing with PTSD, said:
“There’s an increasing focus on mental health issues, which is both welcome and needed, especially in the area of the professional and caring services where pressures are reaching intolerable levels for many involved. This seminar is designed to offer practical advice and support to those in roles that can induce burnout, a syndrome linked to work-related stress. In frontline and caring services, compassion fatigue can also have consequences for those who use the services.
“I want participants to understand what has brought them to this place and how to move forward. They work for us at times when we are in greatest need, often with the vulnerable and the traumatised – it is essential that their mental health needs are recognised in return. I hope they leave the seminar inspired again about the work they do and better equipped to do it for their service users, as well as for their own personal wellbeing.
“I am grateful to Pastor Jason Cask, Senior Pastor at C7 Church, for inviting me to give this seminar in Scotland. His recognition of the work done by these people, with no thought for their own emotional or mental health wellbeing, has created this opportunity for me to share my expertise with one of society’s most significant group of workers.”
The event will take place at the conference centre at C7, 100 High Craighall Road, Glasgow G4 9UD on 24 October between 10 am-noon. The seminar is open to all. Registration is online at https://events.eventzilla.net/e/burnout-and-compassion-fatigue-seminar-with-dr-don-lichi-2138762991
